Terve Maria

Terwe, Maria, armoitettu,
Terve, Maria, armoitettu,
Hail Mary, full of grace,
Herra sinun kan$sasi;
Herra sinun kanssasi;
the Lord is with thee;
Siunattu sinä nai$ten jouko$sa
Siunattu sinä naisten joukossa
blessed art thou amongst women,
ja siunattu kohtusi hedelmä Jeesu$.
ja siunattu kohtusi hedelmä Jeesus.
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Pyhä Maria, Jumalan äiti,
Pyhä Maria, Jumalan äiti,
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
rukoile meidän synti$ten puole$ta
rukoile meidän syntisten puolesta
pray for us sinners,
nyt ja kuolemamme hetkellä.
nyt ja kuolemamme hetkellä.
now and at the hour of our death.

The translation is the English version of this prayer.

The record has been done by Petri Tikka, a native speaker of Finnish and Tolkien language enthusiast. Thank you, Petri !

The text is transcribed in Fraktur, a style of blackletter used in Finnish typography until the end of the 19th century. According to the custom of the time, w replaces in Fraktur what is spelt v in Antiqua (an umbrella term for styles of the Latin alphabet other than blackletter, such as those generally used today). We made use of Peter Wiegel’s typeface Berthold Mainzer Fraktur.
