Commentary
Extracted from Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin in Unfinished Tales. The meaning is given in note. Glamhoth “din-horde” is figurative periphrasis (a kenning according to the terminology of Old Norse and Old English poetry) referring to the Orcs.

The text is transcribed in tengwar or “letters of Fëanor” according to the mode of Beleriand created by Tolkien and illustrated for instance by the Moria gate inscription in The Lord of the Rings, book II, chapter 4.
